A 3-hour tour of what is considered the oldest public art museum in the world. Located in a piazza designed by Michelangelo at the apex of the city on top of the Roman Forum, the Capitoline Museums is a group of art and archaeological museums opened in the Renaissance period with the Pope’s collection of ancient artifacts that had been excavated at the time. The collection of Roman antiquities such as bronze and marble masterpieces, Roman coins, Etruscan pottery and some of the most famous Baroque Italian paintings, perfectly embodies the city of Rome and its deep history.
